Attitude or system
i really admire those can make full use of their time. they can study, complete the assignments on time, run their business, meeting with others and yet still can go for clubbing. At every one time i can only concentrate on one, but they are like multitasking and run everything parallel. i wish to covet those spirits. Laziness is always my weakness, which until now i still cannot defeat it. most of my time conquer by narcolepsy, which proven scientifically is a genetic mutation, so it is not my fault.
honestly, i seldom read and study. what i do is just making short note for important points and that is it. whenever i feel like i want to study then i will refer to the short notes. only when the time i cannot remember the facts then only i will go back to book and find out. this is my study method. i admit i did a lot of maths. even i hate them, but still i have to do it, because if i want to stay in this line, i have no options, and the phd maths are really killing, sometimes my supervisor also have no idea what the heck is it. to find the solution, we have to consult the math professor from math faculty. no one know everything, not even a professor.
as for your information, i at one time tried to solve a math equation, after almost 100 pages of working (or may be more, i think), then only realized that i made a mistake. yes, a minor mistake. i just forgot to put a negative sign in the equation, ended up i have to re-do everything from the beginning. compare to some half page solution, one even give up and start to complain, or just sit there and wait for the answer. frankly speaking to you, if you were about to plan to go for master or phd degree, with this kind of attitude, i don't even think you can survive for your undergrad degree. spoon-feeding learning will lead you to no where, not even Holland.
"Innovative learning" is a very nice term, but in my humble opinion, this kind of learning method can only introduce in western countries. our education system never allow this to happen. ever since you enter the Hall of Knowledge, what you do is basically imitate from your teacher. one is one, two is two, a for apple and the rest. you never have room to innovate anything. the flow of the process normally can be formulated in this way, memorize->fill in the blanks->word->words->sentence->paragraph->essay->plagiarism->copy+paste+modification=> your assignment, and you are so proud of yourself when you get an "A" for your hardship. the worse is some just finished the whole thing without knowing what is he doing! the system only innovative in the sense of "modification", not "creative". the way to innovative is a fantasy, as i can conclude. so is the attitude that make the system or the system that make the attitude? i myself have no answer.
Do correct me if i am wrong, any brilliant opinions/suggestions are most welcome.
Question: is my English simple enough?
October 22, 2008 at 11:07 PM Our country's education system never train us to be more creative thinking instead we are spoon fed since we are in the kindergarden. Our teachers always ask us not to question so much, but just to accept whatever knowledge they passed to us.
When we grow up slowly and gradually, we are get used to this kind of "habit" or "culture" already. Comparing local students and overseas students, overseas students are questions more and having more open discussion during their lecture. Not like our local here, our lecture is the lecturers stand in front of the lecture hall and talk and the students are just sitting there. But in overseas, their lectures are different. Students need to do some preparation before they attend lecture as their lecture are an "open discussion forum". Students can always ask or questioning all the doubts they have in their mind.
Sometimes, I feel that not really can blame the attitude of our students who are too "spoon feeding" coz they were trained since they small. But I would blame their bad attitude for not willing to make the changes when there is some new style of taching method to be used on them, e.g. open discussion during tutorial etc. They will start to grumble a lot and blame lecturers when they are fail. It is their attitude not willing to moving forward and make the change in their studying life.
Rules and policies can always be changed from time to time even though we may attach to it for very long time. It is depending on our willingness whether to move towards that changes only.
Education is not single party's effort. It needs both parties' effort where lecturer willing to giving the guidance, assitance and consultation whereas students are willing to learn and explore any other knowledges by themselves. But what happen in our current situation is the lecturer willing to contribute, but some of the students are not willing to put in their effort!
Again, to change the education in our country is not that easy job (possible, but may need very long process and many years of time and many other factors etc). Since education system in the country is not able to be changed, then the students and lecturers together should change their way of studying and lecturing.
This is what i thought.
